Dryers use a considerable amount of energy. Therefore, dryers have a big impact on the environment. The fact is, energy efficiency of a clothes dryer depends on unobstructed air circulation. So, the filter and exhaust hose should be kept clear and you’ll save energy.

    * Clean the lint filter after each use. This allows the air to circulate efficiently. The easier it is for the air to blow through your clothes, the less time it takes to dry your load, thus using less energy.
* Dry full loads, BUT don’t overload your dryer - clothes need room to move and keep air circulating.
* Use the automatic or “more dry/less dry” settings. It will shut off the dryer automatically when the clothes are dry and typically cuts energy use by 15%.
* Dry heavy and light fabrics separately.
* Avoid adding wet items to a load that is partially dry.
* Try drying clothes consecutively to take advantage of built up heat.
* Try using a clothesline - it’s free and it’s sustainable.
